This article is just too good not to post. I watched President Obama's speech on healthcare Wednesday night, and I was so disappointed Thursday when I turned on the news and all day long all I heard was about this South Carolina guy and his supposedly compulsive "You Lie!"... yeah right. That was about as unplanned as Christmas. In any case, I ran across this posting on another site, and seeing as his outburst was in response to the statement that illegal aliens we would not be offering up free healthcare to illegal immigrants, this was just such a juicy little morsel, it had to be shared. Turns out Joe Wilson voted to provide taxpayer money for illegals back in'03. Sweet.
I have mixed emotions about this particular issue in the first place. The simple fact is, we're paying for their healthcare regardless of whether or not we add them to "the plan", whatever that is. We will continue to pay for the healthcare of those who do not have insurance who seek healthcare and cannot afford to pay it themselves. Do healthcare providers just absorb this cost? Not exactly. That would be a contributor to our increased insurance premiums and increased bills from the hospital or doctor's office. What if they are able to purchase low cost insurance? Well, they are covered, so we aren't paying more to cover their ER visits -- because people without insurance go to the ER when they need healthcare, which is the most expensive healthcare you can seek. There is a big price tag for a facility to stay open 24-hours a day and have full, trauma-ready staff on 24/7. So, in reality, by offering them the ability to purchase low cost public insurance, we are actually saving the nation big bucks. So, it is a catch-22... I am not an advocate for illegals, but it just makes a little more sense economically. We will pay for it one way or another.
I guess what some people do not understand is that the 900 billion dollar price tag over the next 10 years that the reform bill will cost... we're going to pay that and more without reform. We can't afford not to pass reform. And everyone in Congress knows that. It should not be an issue of if reform is passed but what it will look like. Just be careful, folks... you might just ''compromise" the reform bill right out of effectiveness.
